This was supposed to be my farewell to Tokyo party, but as the typhoon was baring down on Tokyo - it evolved into a kind of Typhoon party. The downside was that everyone was anxious to leave before they shut down train service due to high winds. But overall, I think everyone had a good time.

As I write this just after midnight, the strongest winds are just starting to hit Tokyo. This storm is a Category 1 and has winds of over 100mph. The brunt of the winds should hit around 3am and the storm should pass
through fairly quickly and be gone by 9am. It's funny how in the US when a hurricane is coming, people stock up on water and batteries in ridiculous quantities. It's as if they are in anticipation of having to survive for 6 months without supplies. In Tokyo, people were just going about their business and picking up a handful of essentials. So many Typhoons hit the islands that most of the houses and people are well prepared.
