It's a GIRL!
We got confirmation today - the kid is most definitely a she! It turns out that the ancient Chinese system for determining boy from girl is bunk. Both Hiromi and I were completely shocked as we had already convinced ourselves that the Chinese method must be pretty dead-on if it's supposedly 99% accurate. My first inkling that it was not a boy came when the doctor shot this picture to the left. We could see her talking, or mouthing something. I read the lips to be saying 'get me outta here' or something to that effect.
Even though we had convinced ourselves we had a boy on the way, we were very happy to hear that it was a girl. In Japanese tradition, it is good luck to have a girl first and boy second. Before Hiromi was pregnant, we were both thinking we wanted a girl first, so that probably contributed a bit, so we're pretty happy...we can't stop smiling. Doctor said everything is going well, baby is a little bit chubbier than most Japanese babies at this stage - I attribute that to the 'fat gene' that runs rampant in my family, so we'll have to cut back on the cheeze wiz and doughnuts.
